Real World Tuner-ology

So it's finally been done, the car's finally been tuned. I'm proud to say it's finally got about 128.4bhp and 161Nm of torque at the wheels, and since powertrain losses are about 15% that means the car has about er...147.66bhp...just about.

All said and done, that means the car has an increase from factory figures about 10bhp. Which brings me to the question... if my current figures show that...what was the siemens ECUed power back then? 90bhp at the wheels?? No wonder it seemed much like the 1.3 ocassionally back then.

Shocking revelations from the dyno charts also show that my previous fuel consumption was incredibly high due to the engine running incredibly rich. I did an estimate on my previous fuel consumption and it came out to about 250km per full tank(urban driving); which is about 50 litres, that's about 14 miles per gallon. Those figures won't mean much until you realise that a Ferrari F430 does 15.4mpg. And that's a 4.3 V8 producing 483bhp. My fuel consumption is only trumped slightly by the Ferrari 612 Scaglietti at 13.6mpg...and yes that's a 6.0 V12 producing 540bhp. Really puts things into perspective. Where did all the fuel go??? It sure didn't translate it into power.....was that why the exhaust smelt like fuel everytime the car was idle? Figures. On the graph that would be the dotted blue line versus the one with er...a blue line. Apparently I'm the record holder at the tuning garage for insane fuel consumption for a naturally aspirated 1.8. Figures.
